Mykonos was named after the son or grandson of the god Apollo and a local hero. The island is said to be the location where the great battle between Zeus and the Titans took place. Hercules is believed to have killed the invincible giants by luring them here, away from their protection of Mount Olympus. Without their protection the giants became vincible and Hercules was able to kill them off. The large rocks all over Mykonos island are said to be the testicles of these petrified giants.

Evzones stand guard in front of the tomb of the unknown soldier at the Parliament in Athens. They change the guards every hour of every day. It’s beautiful to watch. The guards do a small performance every time they change. The rest of the time the guards stand motionless unless you get too close.

There are many very famous sites such as the Acropolis, Parthenon, Temple of Olympian Zeus and many more, right in the middle of the city. Getting around is super easy and completely safe for a woman on her own.
This was my favorite of all the Mayan sites I visited on my trip to Cancun. I loved it because the facade of Ukit-Kan Le’t Tok’s tomb was gorgeous and I got to climb another Mayan pyramid.
