The Alley Cantina, Great Seafood In Taos!

The Alley Cantina in Taos has a little bit of everything to please just about anyone. It may not look like much from the outside, but the food, drinks and service are great. Featuring the best happy hour in Taos with half price drinks on all drinks. As well as a long list of delicious appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, Mexican food and some of the best seafood in the Midwest. Including the absolute best calamari I have eaten in this area. I did not receive any form of compensation to say this. It’s my personal opinion.

The calamari are small, probably soaked in buttermilk, which makes them more tender. Because these were extremely tender.  Then fried to perfection in a wonderful beer batter. Served with chipotle mayo or cocktail sauce. Since the beer batter at the Alley Cantina is so good. The beer battered onion rings and shrimp are awesome as well.

Fun Fact

  • The Alley Cantina has the oldest bathrooms in all of Taos.
  • People like Kit Carson & Buffalo bill are said to have come here.
Another reason to visit the Alley Cantina

What’s interesting about the Alley Cantina, is that it is the oldest building in Taos. Originally built in the 16th century by Pueblo Indians as an outpost on the Chihuahua trail. The building has served many functions over the years. At one point it was partially destroyed which is why the entire building is not 400 years old. Only parts of it are, such as the south and east walls of the kitchen as well as the bathrooms. The rest was rebuilt a few times and a section was added ninety years ago.
