Oia Santorini is one of the most picturesque sites in Greece with beautiful white buildings overlooking the cliff of Santorini. Because of this it is one of the best locations to witness the gorgeous Santorini sunset. Which is said to be the most beautiful sunset in the world! However since this site is so popular, it gets unbearably crowded during the tourist season. Being that Oia really looks like paradise, everyone wants to see it! Consequently the locals are extremely friendly and will make you feel right at home.
Oia stands 70-100 m (230-330ft) above sea level along northern edge of the Santorini caldera. Thanks to it’s location, the view is amazing! You can see the entire caldera from Oia and nothing compares to the beauty of Greek architecture. Even though white homes with beautiful blue doors and rooftops are a common sight in Greece. Because they sit overlooking the Agean sea in Oia, their beauty is increased exponentially.
If you prefer less people, as I do, visit very early in the morning. This way you will almost have the whole place to yourself before the shops open and tourists invade the place. Above all I recommend getting there at 8 am at the latest. Most importantly, if you are going to get there by car, make sure you get there before 10 am. If you want to be able to park your car near Oia Santorini. Otherwise you will have to park quite a ways from the village and walk over there under a scorching hot sun. For this reason make sure you bring lots of water if you go this route.
You will notice couples all over taking their wedding photos here. For the most part, if you want gorgeous wedding photos, Oia Santorini is a great place to take them.
There is a path that runs along the side of the cliff and it will take you to the Agean sea down below.
Be sure to wear good walking shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, comfortable clothes. Bring lots of water, in bottles or a good hydration pack and a camera.
There are accommodations all over Santorini. You can book your hotel below. My link will search through all the online sites to find you the best prices. This site will earn a small commission on your purchase. By using the link below you are funding this site.
