Megalochori
One of the most beautiful little villages on Santorini island. The village is surrounded by vineyards that date back to the 17th century. Wealthy merchants and land owners made their fortunes exporting Vinsanto wine that is still produced here today. Make sure that you try some while you are out here. There’s a bunch of beautiful wine tasting restaurants in the middle of town. You can savor some of the locally produced wines. It’s wonderful and I highly recommend taking a few bottles back home with you. The Greek hillsides make some of the best wine you will ever have. You won’t find wine like this anywhere else on earth!
Protection From Pirates
You’ll notice that all of the historical homes and mansions were built with high walls, solid brightly painted wooden door entrances and inner courtyards. They were built like this so that the residents would have a little privacy but it also served a higher purpose, it prevented the pirates from getting in. You’ll get the impression that you are walking through a labyrinth.
