Luggage Scale

Best Luggage Scale Reviews and Why You Need One

In order to make your vacation as hassle-free and relaxing as possible, you need to pack your luggage wisely. Most airlines nowadays have gotten very strict about luggage weight. A pound or two over and they are more than happy to charge you for it. All of a sudden that bargain or souvenir you bought because you still had space in your suitcase, just ended up costing an extra $100 in overweight luggage fees. However, extra luggage fees can easily be avoided with a simple luggage scale. Some of you may use a bathroom scale to weigh your luggage. But be advised that it will not be as accurate as a luggage scale. And you won’t have access to it when you arrive at your destination. So you won’t be able to avoid overweight luggage fees on your way back after you added souvenirs in your suitcase.

Which one do I need?

Best of all, a luggage scale is extremely inexpensive and compact. So that you can easily carry it with you, no matter where you travel to. Since they come in a variety of different sizes and formats, it’s important to pick the one that will work best for you. Most of these scales only go up to one-hundred pounds. Which is significantly more than the weight limit of most airlines.  In other words, your luggage scale will be able to weigh anything you plan on taking on the plane with you. Be advised that a lot of luggage scales run on batteries, and inevitably, you’ll need to replace them. So if you buy one that requires batteries, make sure it also has a battery indicator light. This way you will know when the battery is about to go out. Also, make sure you check the batteries before you leave so that you don’t find yourself with a dead scale when you arrive at your destination. However, you can avoid the whole battery issue altogether by simply buying a luggage scale that doesn’t require a battery. Which is what I did.

How do you use it?

Now, to use the scale, if it doesn’t have a battery, you’ll have to shake it first. Otherwise, simply turn it on.  Then tie the strap around your suitcase handle, lift with the scale, read the weight and put it back down. That being said, you’re going to want something that has a nice sturdy grip to hold onto as you lift. In order to help you select the right luggage scale for you, I will go over the key features and benefits of my five scales.

Etekcity Digital Hanging Luggage Scale

This is one of the best luggage scales on Amazon. The only thing I don’t like about it is the battery but it has a low battery indicator light so that you will know when to replace it.

  • Battery operated with low battery indicator
  • Overload indicator
  • Tare
  • Thermostat
  • 110 lbs capacity
  • Weight 2.8 oz

EatSmart Precision Voyager Digital Luggage Scale

Even though the name doesn’t seem to fit, this is a luggage scale with an easy-grip handle. The only problem is, the handle is too small for two hands so you have to be able to pick up your luggage with one hand. Also, this scale is heavier than most so it will add on a few extra ounces to your luggage.

  • Battery operated without low battery indicator
  • Easy-grip handle but only accommodates one hand
  • 110 lbs capacity
  • Weight 5.5 oz

Nutri Fit Rechargeable Hanging Luggage Scale

One of the best features of this luggage scale is that it also doubles as a power pack. So that you can charge your cell phone or electronics as you wait at the airport and not have to carry an extra device for it. Surprisingly even with this feature, it’s still lighter than the Eatsmart scale.

  • Battery operated with built-in power bank
  • Charging and discharging power indicator
  • Overload indicator
  • Tare
  • 110 lbs capacity
  • Weight 4.8 oz

Leokor Luggage Scale

If you like to be able to measure things as well as weigh them, this is the scale for you. Not only does it have an integrated measuring tape but its also made out of stainless steel for longer durability.

  • Battery operated with low battery indicator
  • Overload indicator
  • Tare
  • Measuring tape
  • Stainless Steel
  • 110 lbs capacity
  • Weight 4.8 oz

Ellessi Battery-Free Luggage Scale

By far this is my favorite luggage scale because it doesn’t require any batteries to operate. So you will never have to worry about having a charged unit or not. Simply shake it and it creates its own power.

  • No Battery, simply shake and use
  • Tare
  • 110 lbs capacity
  • Weight 3.2 oz

In the end, a luggage scale will not only save you time but it will also save you from overweight baggage fees.
