The Georgia O’Keeffe museum is home to the largest collection of her work in the world. Featuring 140 paintings, 700 drawings and additional work dating between 1901-1984 created by Georgia O’Keeffe. Over 1200 objects created by Georgia such as sculptures, paintings and charcoal drawings.

Who was Georgia O’Keeffe?

Georgia O’Keeffe was best known as much for her independent spirit and for her dramatic and innovative works of art. Georgia was a great American female role model and painter. She taught painting for many years. Her work mostly consists of enlarged flowers, New York city skylines and New Mexico landscapes. She was devoted to creating imagery that expressed what she called “the wideness and wonder of the world as I live in it.”

Her eyesight started to fail in 1983 and forced her into retirement in 1984. Two years later, she passed away and eleven years later, in July of 1997 the museum opened. Come take a look for yourself at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Fun Fact

None of the colors in her paintings overlap. She was great with edging and all her colors are only painted to the edge where the other color starts.
