Cats In Greece

If you love cats, as much as I do.  Actually, I may love cats a little too much.  I have five of them, plus the stray cat that I feed in my backyard but she doesn’t technically really belong to me, so I’m still one cat short of crazy 😉  Even if you love cats only half as much as do. Greece is the place for you! When I travel I miss my babies. Cats in Greece gave me a daily dose of kitty cuddles that I usually miss when I’m away from my babies back home. Cats were everywhere in Greece and I loved it. Best of all, the stray cats in Greece are super friendly because the Greek locals take great care of them.

Why Are Cats So Important In Greece?

Cats were considered a sacred animal in Greece for a long time. A lot of the locals still treat them this way. It’s beautiful to see. Cars will stop to let a cat cross the road. If a cat decides to stop in the middle of the road. The locals will stop and wait until the cat decides to get out of the way. No one ever honks at them to get out of the way.

People give the cats food and water in Greece. As you walk through the streets in Greece, you will notice little water and food bowls for the cats next to the colored doors.

Travel Secret

Don’t be shy to share your meal with a cat if one shows up at your table in a restaurant. Save some leftovers from your meals to give to the cats in Greece that you will see along the way during your visits. They will love you for it!

My Recommendations

Be sure to wear good walking shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and wear comfortable clothes. It gets extremely hot in Greece during the summertime. Bring lots of water in bottles but a good hydration pack is best. Click this link to see my favorite. You’ll have easy access to lots of water and you’ll have somewhere to store your belongings, souvenirs and cat food for the cats in Greece.
